Travel advisory issued for London, Ont., area Thursday night

If there weren’t already enough reasons to stay at home, a snowstorm set to travel through southwestern Ontario has prompted Environment Canada to issue a winter weather travel advisory.

As forecasters call for a heavy snowfall in southwestern Ontario, Environment Canada is warning of rapidly deteriorating road conditions on Thursday night.

The advisory is for Thursday night and covers London, Komoka, Parkhill and Strathroy, along with eastern and western Middlesex County.

Snow is expected to touchdown near Windsor and Sarnia around 7 p.m. Thursday, before spreading

The Virginia State Police and Virginia Department of Transportation have issued a travel advisory for commercial truckers on Interstate 77 at the Virginia, North Carolina border.

The Fancy Gap area is experiencing sustained winds  of 35-40  mph with gusts up to 70  mph.   So far, four tractor-trailers have overturned there. 

The first big rig was blown over at 5:58 a.m. No one was hurt.

Winter Weather Travel Watch issued

A Winter Weather Travel Watch has been issued for Allen County, Indiana. Heavy snow fell overnight and is continuing to fall making roads snow-covered, slick and hazardous for travel. Avoid travel if possible while crews work to clear and treat primary roads this morning.

If you do have to travel this morning, make sure to completely clear your vehicle of snow (windows, hood, roof) before traveling. Drive slower than usual and plan to slide when stopping or turning.

Travel advisory issued for Cortland County in anticipation of heavy snow

Cortland County, N.Y. — In anticipation of several inches of snowfall, a travel advisory has been issued for Cortland County, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The advisory is expected to last through 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

About 4 inches of snow is expected to fall during the day and another inch could fall at night. The snow has already made roads slick in Central New York.
